The Economics Faculty was established in 1962 at the Buryat Agricultural Institute. Its founding was a significant event for both the institute and the republic, as socio-economic conditions necessitated a local institution for training economists.
1962: The Faculty of Economics was founded. The first dean was Alexey Grigoryevich Dulganov, a graduate of the Omsk Agricultural Institute (1937) and an Honored Agronomist of the Buryat ASSR. The first student intake was for the specialties: "Agricultural Economist" and "Accountant-Economist."
1967: The first graduation of 33 economists and 35 accountants.
1970s-1980s: The faculty repeatedly won the institute's socialist competition. In the 1980/81 academic year, the fifth-year economics students were recognized as the best in the institute, achieving a 100% pass rate and an average grade of 4.1.
1985-1986: By this period, 1,966 faculty graduates were working in the Buryat and Tuva ASSRs, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Chita and Irkutsk Oblasts, and other regions.
1998-1999: New specialties were opened: "Management," "Commerce and Trade," and "Applied Informatics in Economics."
2000: Training began in "Finance and Credit," with the faculty graduating over 700 specialists annually.
2003: The Humanities Faculty was established, founded by Professor L.A. Zaytseva, who became its first dean. Subsequent deans were: Associate Professor E.E. Semenova (2005-2010), Associate Professor A.E. Karnachev (2010-2016), and Acting Dean Associate Professor O.D. Barlukova (2016-2018).
2005: The faculty enrolled its first students in "Public Relations," marking the academy's first humanities program. Later, the "Tourism" program began training guide-lecturers.
2002: The Linguistic Center was created, later expanding its activities to train "Translators in Professional Communication."
2010: The Linguistic Center was reorganized into the Institute of Linguistics and Intercultural Communication (ILIC).
2012: ILIC began training Chinese language translators and later started enrolling international students to learn Russian. Students from China, Mongolia, Romania, South Korea, the USA, Italy, Poland, and the Czech Republic have studied at the institute.
2018: The Faculty of Agribusiness and Intercultural Communications was formed by merging the Economics and Humanities faculties with the Institute of Linguistics and Intercultural Communication. Dean: Associate Professor M.A. Banieva.
2022: By decision of the Academic Council, the faculty was renamed back to the Economics Faculty. It now comprises seven departments. The current dean is Associate Professor M.A. Banieva.

To date, the faculty has trained over 15,000 specialists. Students actively participate in research circles, present at various conferences, and successfully represent the faculty and academy in interregional and all-Russian olympiads in economics and humanities. They are also involved in the academy's creative groups, competitions, and sports and social events.
